NÁT 103
Sustainable Tourism

Main Page / Students Project

Objectives:

·        Students acquire knowledge about sustainable tourism

·        Students learn to work independently on finding resources and solving complex problems

·        Students learn to present information

·        Students learn to work and collaborate with others

Project:

Work systematically towards marketing the country as a clean and unpolluted choice within tourism.

Your task will be to discuss the statement above, what it means and how it can be achieved

Process:
The project includes the use of Problem Based Learning methods. See: http://www.pbl.is

1.      Lesson:  Work in groups of 5.

·        Nature preservation, utilization of resources

·        Pollution, emission control

·        Consumption, waste, recycling

·        Organic farming, ecological

·        Sustainable development, The Rio pact, Agenda 21

Write down what you know about each of these subjects. It is important that each student writes down all of the group ideas. You will have 30 minutes to work on this.

Each individual chooses one of the five topics as a specialty. Specialists then meet to discuss their findings and compare notes.

2.      Lesson:  The specialists on the five topics meet and try to find solutions to their problems. Use the textbook as a resource as well as the photocopies from the teacher. Each group of specialists writes a report on his chosen matter and gives it back to the teacher in the end of class.

3.      Lesson:  Workgroups meet and write a report on sustainable tourism. The report should be in the form of a Power-point slideshow in English (4-6 slides). It is our intention to introduce this project abroad. This project is part of the Comenius project, in which the school is participating and is mainly focused on ecotourism. Produce a finished report/presentation and focus on the quality of the material and not the quantity. Each group may choose which part of the project it concentrates on, but it must do so in collaboration with the teacher.

4.      Lesson:  Work on slideshows.

5.      kennslustund:  An English teacher visits and helps við the language. Slideshows turned in. Photos from classroom.

6.      Lesson: The slideshows will be exhibited at the following website: http://www2.fa.is/deildir/liffraedi/nat103/v04/vist/index.html

Evaluation:

1.      The specialists’ report (20%)

2.      Report (60%)

3.      Attendance (20%)
